Where Confidence Reluctance and Sass Come To A Boil

Badass Burning Flames

The Maple Dixon Line

North meets South for a spirited collaboration.  Kentucky bourbon and a kiss of Vermont maple syrup makes everything A-Okay.

The Stuff You Need:

For a martini:

1.5 ounces Bourbon

1/2 ounce Dry Vermouth

2 teaspoons Maple Syrup

Orange zest twist

For a cocktail:

2 ounces Bourbon

1 ounce Dry Vermouth

2 teaspoon Maple Syrup

1 ounce club soda

Orange zest twist

How To Do This:

For the martini, combine Bourbon, dry vermouth and maple syrup with ice in a cocktail shaker.  Shake and strain into chilled martini glass and garnish with orange peel twist.

For a cocktail on the rocks, shake or stir the Bourbon, dry vermouth and maple syrup.  Pour into a rocks glass over ice.  Top with club soda and orange peel twist.

Notes:

We have also enjoyed this cocktail with Rum instead of Bourbon.

Final Thoughts:

This is the cocktail shaker set we recently purchased from Amazon.  Before that, I was using a plastic one from Chili’s, which finally cracked.  What a pleasure this new shaker is to use!  It never gets stuck together and it was a bargain at less than $25.00.  It will be a treasured family heirloom.

The item on the left is a zester.  You can make a thin ribbon of orange zest with it.  The item on the right is a “Y” Peeler and you can get a really wide band of orange zest using this.  Guess which one we prefer?  You can accomplish the same with a paring knife.  Either way you slice your orange zest, make sure you do so directly above your shaker or glasses so you capture all that lovely orange oil.
